Warehouse / Field Support Manager

Job Responsibilities:

Primary Function

The position plays a key role in the company’s success by ensuring the warehouse has the required inventory and it is delivered to job sites in a timely, safe and professional matter. In addition to managing the warehouse and its staff, the manager oversees and provides support to operations with the crane and crew. The manager also has budgetary, safety, workflow, and security responsibilities.

The following is a breakout of responsibilities:


  • Maintain receiving, warehousing, and distribution operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures
  • Comply with federal, state, and local warehousing, material handling, and shipping requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions
  • Safeguard warehouse operations and contents by establishing and monitoring security procedures and protocols
  • Control inventory levels by conducting physical counts and reconciling with data storage system for all companies
  • Maintain physical condition of warehouse by planning and implementing new design layouts, inspecting equipment, and issuing work order for repair and requisitions for replacement
  • Achieve financial objectives by preparing an annual budget, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions
  • Complete warehouse operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees and following up on work results
  • Actively participate in recruiting, interviewing, hiring and onboarding warehouse staff
  • Provide leadership to warehouse staff through coaching, mentoring, giving positive and corrective feedback
  • Remain abreast of professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and/or participating in professional societies
  • Write purchase orders as needed for inventory and small project related purchases (acts as backup to purchasing as well).
  • Create weekly warehouse schedule for weekly operations meetings
  • Develop and maintain outside vendor relationships
  • Coordinate and schedule all large equipment moves – do so when fleet manager is on vacation
  • Manage equipment tracking program to ensure whereabouts of equipment is known and being transferred from project to project correctly - do so when fleet / equipment manager is on vacation
  • Provide input into the development of annual budgets
  • Order all specially-needed equipment – this only pertains to hand tools and stock of tools needed for employees
  • Write purchase orders for hand tools & stock tools for employees
  • Resolve escalated issues arising from operations and require coordination with other departments
  • Work closely with VP of Operations, Project Managers, and Field Supervisors to coordinate job site deliveries
  • Receive in all purchase orders and call vendors with discrepancies
  • In charge of all Home Depot credit cards / keep track of whoever has the card(s)


  • Review daily electronic time sheets (About Time electronic timecard software for all warehouse, crane crew, and maintenance service
  • Attend staff meeting every other week
  • Attend hand off meetings and make job site visits (when job is complete) as required to ensure support of field operations
  • Release material shipments for multi-delivery construction projects with focus on continued operations without interruption
  • Manage field employees who might be assigned light duty work
  • Manage warehouse dumpster rotation for both trash and metal recycling
  • Use of credit cards for purchases
  • Research facility equipment needs
  • Order diesel and gas for on site fuel tanks and company owned tanks
  • Print work orders and outline D/S materials so warehouse personnel know what material to be shipped (for all companies)
  • Work with fleet manager on vehicles needed for pre-loads
  • Work with supervisors on equipment lists needed for jobs
  • Work with all vendors for material returns
  • Do monthly rental sheets of vehicles used by other companies
  • Have OSHA 10, Forklift certifications. Cary valid medical card for driving
  • Take care of yearly maintenance of dock plates and overhead doors
