Solar Sales Estimator/Project Engineer

The solar Estimator will be responsible for working with the Vice President to gather information regarding potential contracts and utilize previous experience and knowledge to calculate a cost to complete the project. The ideal candidate will be able to quickly familiarize themselves with the scope of work and contract details in order to successfully be awarded the contract. Strong communication skills are a must as this position will need to communicate with the leadership team, the project team, and the client on a regular basis.

Duties and Responsibilities:

A Solar Sales Estimator & Project Engineer is responsible for:

  • Using cutting-edge proposal tools to design solar arrays for solar clients
  • Attending weekly sales meetings and make weekly minimum required call hours & site visits
  • Understand and explain cost-benefit analysis; identifying client’s concerns and motivators
  • Reviewing contracts and drawings
  • Identify, procure & allocate all aspects of the project requirements including: permits, material & labor to complete the installation followed by commissioning on the system.
  • Effectively create a project schedule (GANTT) and revise weekly as appropriate to meet needs of project and create and maintain project notes and records for safe-keeping
  • Clear, open and honest communication with clients before, during & after the installation
  • Understand and assist/perform web-based data monitoring communication software of both client and Scalo owned solar power plants.
  • Understand and assist/perform the SREC management
  • Understand and assist/perform monthly invoicing to clients for project percentage completion
  • Monitor project budget and regularly evaluation production metrics
  • Replying to all inquiries in a timely matter, developing and maintaining friendly relationships with clients
  • Effectively applying and enforcing Company standards, policies & procedures.
  • Work hand-in-hand with in-house sales and operations departments to provide customers with detailed and accurate roof measurements, estimates, and proposals
  • Maintain a complete understanding of all contract information prepared and presented by the company
  • Responsible for preparing proposals, including comprehensive outline of work to be performed along with bidding information, forms, drawings, and digital photos
  • Responsible for any in-progress work order changes, approvals, submittals, and project close-out to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Willingness and ability to learn and utilize new software when needed
  • Act as a liaison to the sales and operations department to ensure a proper hand off from sales to operations to provide the best customer experience possible
  • Provide solar information - price, quality, point of sales material
  • Able to adapt to changing requests in a timely and professional manner
  • Strong relationship management skills that will both win new work and win repeat work from existing customers and clients
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

  •  A degree or some college in environmental, energy, conservation, ecology, business or related field  
  • Excellent people skills - communication, interpersonal and professional presentation skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills: Effective communicator
  • Strong computer technical skills including MS Office Suite. Must possess professional Powerpoint presentation skills with significant experience with MS Excel; being able to create, evaluate and compare investment return analysis
  • Have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
  • Permissible background check including clean drug screen, valid Driver's License, and work-related references
  • Physical demands include regular walking, driving, computer work, oral and written language abilities, ability to converse, light bending and ability to climb ladders if needed.
  • NABCEP PV Installation Professional Certification preferred; or willingness to acquire proper training and take NABCEP PV Installation Professional exam
